Good points. I initially half-translated "pull request" to "Pull-Anfrage" for German but started to revert it to using "pull request" in the German translation as well since even the German Wikipedia uses the English term "pull/ merge request" in its article. I do think that at least within the German speaking community there is somewhat of a long standing discussion about what to do with these English terms with a diminishing number of people using German translation for (almost) all technical terms. However, I do think that ultimately it doesn't matter that much anyways since whatever audience we are targeting they either know what pulling, forking, etc. is or they don't. The concept will not become suddenly clear to someone who isn't familiar with it, even if the term is translated. On the other hand, people who know git may be confused if some unfamiliar term created by translation is used. 3 months ago |

I have the same problem elsewhere. It is pretty hard to decide. Should we use what everybody uses, which may resonate with a public used to see technical terms (and give in to English as the dominant language)? Or should we translate anyway to target a broader audience in a specific, which may sound weird for people used to these terms in English? I don't know the answer. But I think that:
